chairman's newsletter 2013
As another fishing season at Stowe draws to a close, it's time to reflect on the past season.
In early September the committee with the help of Andrew Ellis, an independent fisheries consultant who runs Lemington Lakes near Moreton in the Marsh, carried out a survey on the 11 acre lake.
His survey found the lake in good condition, but felt that we needed more young Tench.
As a result of this survey we purchased 1000 6-8" Tench which we put into the 11 acre lake in November.
When Andrew saw the lakes his first comment was "just taking in the surroundings and the lake is itself is such a sight, what a fantastic water" I think as fisherman we forget how beautiful our lakes really are.
We also purchased some prime Roach and Bream from Brackley when the lake was netted by the Environment Agency, hopefully this will ensure good fishing for many years to come.
The fishing has improved significantly this year with good catches of fish especially Bream and large Tench.
There have also been several Carp over 24lb and at least 4 Pike over 20lb and one monster over 30lb. The Roach have also put in a welcome appearance.
On a more serious note it has been reported that the sheep in the car park field have escaped at least twice. So please ensure that you have closed all gates.
The car park has now had the entrance stoned and hopefully this will help to ensure that it serviceable all year round.
The club have also purchased a boat to undertake remedial work around the lake along with any weed cutting that needs to be done.
