chairman's newsletter 2014
As we are all aware, our lease expired at the end of this season. I know it has caused anger and sadness with all our members, to lose our beautiful lakes at Stowe.
As a club we remain very positive looking ahead to the future, and I believe that we are now close to securing a long-term lease on Oxford Water, and can now think about instigating our long-term stocking policies. We are hoping to carry this out by removing some of the small roach population and introducing new fish, along with the transferral of some large Tench and Bream from 11 Acre, once numbers are agreed with National Trust. I am very aware that Oxford water will not appeal to the carp or pike fishing fraternity, but as a match and pleasure lake for the whole family it has great potential. We also hope, due to its location, we are able to introduce disabled pegs in the future to help encourage members old and new to use the lake with ease. This is something that we could never do on 11 Acre due to our restrictions. It is proposed that the membership is to remain at the sum of £30 for the whole year and it is hoped that we can achieve a total membership of 100, assuming everyone who said they would continue membership does so, however only time will tell. The option to renew your membership will be available on the 15th April at the AGM as it always has been. Once we have a definite cost of the lease per year we will be able to make sure that the club is viable, rest assured the membership cost will be kept as low as possible in future years as the committee is very aware that we need to stay competitive with other local clubs within the area and offer value for our member’s money.
The National Trust have assured the committee that the new pegs and ground work will be in place for 1st June 2014, and there should be somewhere in the region of 25 pegs on the lake. For your reference The National Trust have requested that no reeds are to be removed from either side of each peg and there will be a small buffer zone of reeds at the front of each staging, kept low to help hide the front of the staging’s from view. The National Trust has assured us they will be managed so as not to interfere with members fishing. Also, agreed in principle with the National Trust is for 'no closed season', another positive. With another era starting there will be the inevitable rule changes, a few I think I should bring to your attention are Oxford Water is now a barbless hook water, fishing is from dawn to dusk and no bivvies are allowed. Other rule changes will be published in your new membership cards so please check them to make sure you comply with them.
This year’s AGM will be held on Tuesday 15thApril at 7.30pm at Buckingham School, London Road, Buckingham. (Next to Swan Pool).
Thanks again for your continued support with our club, and I wish you all a successful year ahead on our new lake.
